Hi Everyone,
So who am I you ask?
Well my name is Joseph Tomaszewski, and I'm 19 years old, I was born in Leicestershire, in the U.K, and have lived here my entire life.
Since primary school people have told me I have a skill for art, and art is the one subject I have always loved. At around the age of 11 or 12 I started playing Warhammer 40k but wasn't really a keen fan of the painting at the time, being way too impatient, I gamed for a couple of years and then stopped, and didn't think about the hobby again untill the Lord of the Rings, the Fellowship of the Ring came out.
I had seen the film and loved it, (still being my favourite film to date even now) I walked past a Games Workshop and noticed a poster advertising thier Lord of the Rings range, after a browse I decided to pick up a "Fellowship of the Ring" boxed set, this time for the artistic purposes of it, rather than gaming. I spent weeks painting it and I was extremely pleased with it, and this really launched my enthusiasm for painting, after that I painted a lot of Lord of the Rings mini's, and slowly decided to branch out into Warhammer 40k and Fantasy, after doing this and looking at many guides from the internet I slowly got more confident about my work, and about 2 years ago decided to start selling my work on eBay, under the name of Broken-Blade, which I had used for many years on forums as my username, which, as you may have guessed originated from the broken blade that Aragorn carries and eventually has restored.
That year I decided to enter the local Games Workshop painting competition with a Bretonnian pegasus knight, I spent some weeks painting it, and to my pleasure I won best Wahammer Fantasy miniature and also best entry overall, and to my surprise many months later found out it had also won the "cell champion trophy" which basically means it was the best from the county.
In 2004 I decided to enter Golden Demon UK for the first time, and because of my love of Lord of the Rings, I decided to enter a Warrior of the Dead from the Return of the King range into the "Lord of the Rings Single Miniature" category, which took a Silver Demon.
I was astounded I could win anything at Golden Demon, so it's safe to say my ideas for Golden demon 2005 were over ambitious, i set my heart on 3 entries, Marneus Calgar and a squad of Honour Guard, a giant Squiggoth vs Imperial guard battle scene, and Goldberry for the Lord of the Rings single miniature category, I turned up at the competition after a night of finishing the entries, that's right, no sleep whatsoever, and was taken back by the amazing quality of the entries. There wasn't one category that didn't have at least 5 entries worthy of a Gold. My entries all made the cut, but unfortunately did not pick up any demons, I am still ultimately proud of my entries, a lot of hard work and time went into them, but the approach I made was worng for a competition on the kind of scope as Golden Demon,
What do I have planned in the future? let's say my entries for upcoming years will be MUCH smaller, and fewer, with the phrase "quality rather than quantity" in mind at all times.
I would like to give a special thanks to Stefan Ashwell for making this website.
