Broken Blade Studios - Miniature art by Golden Demon winner Joseph Tomaszewski

This is my Silver Demon winning entry of Golden Demon U.K. 2004.

The idea came about after trying to formulate an original look for a Lord of the Rings miniature.

The Army of the dead were always a good group of soldiers as regards painting (having painted a squad perviously) and i thought i could add much more depth and a strong "ghostly feel" to them.

To do this i approached the mini in a way i had not yet attempted before, to paint the base colours as if it was a gondorian noble many, many years ago, then highlight up to the green shade, and then highlight this as normal, this meant that it still had the green ghostly feel, but the true colours of his clothes and armour showed through underneath this giving it a lot of depth.

The technique is showed particularly well on his cloak, where you see the dark red change to green.

This miniature is on display at Games Workshop Leicester at the moment, as well as being featured in many White Dwarfs, and the Golden Demon 2005 programme, and Golden Demon 2004 winners booklet.
